Nature and Humans

Thomas Berry, well known eco-theologian, speaks about the relationship between humans and the natural world.  Children need contact with the trees, the mountains, the oceans and wildlife for their mental and emotional development.

Thomas Berry talks about the need to expand our ideas about ‘rights’ and accept that other species should also have rights; they should have legal standing.  Indeed whole eco-systems such as a river or a coral reef could have a new legal status and gain stronger protection. Humans, he says, are here for the perfection of the Earth, not the other way round. Earth is not simply to be used. That path will lead the human to a state of acute spiritual illness, if not physical death.”
